William C. Van Horn 66, founder of the Van Horn Seed co. of Cerro Gordo, died at 12:30 pm yesterday in Decatur and Macon county hospital. He died of a gunshot wound in the head shortly after being brought to the hospital from his home. Corner Harold Bringlinger said He was found in a semi-conscious condition in his home with a 32 caliber revolver at his side.

He had suffered a fall in his home yesterday morning and a doctor who examined him advised that he enter a hospital for x ray examination. The shooting occurred while members of the family were away from home preparing for the trip to the hospital and the body was found by the housekeeper.

He was a life long resident of the La Place community and a member of the La Place Methodist church and had been in failing health for four years. He farmed for many years and in 1936 founded the Van Horn Seed Co. which he operated until his retirement in 1950. The company is now managed by his son, Lyle Van Horn.

He was born near La Place April 14, 1888, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Van Horn. He was married to Miss Bessie Chapman Dec. 8,1909 in Decatur. She died in 1945.

Besides his son Lyle, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Alikonis,Bloomington and Mrs. Helen Dickey,Ft. Lauderdale,Fla, a brother Clifford,Decatur and two sisters Mrs. Hazel Hoots,Mt. Pulaski and Mrs.Carrie Cripe, Cal. Nine grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be 2 pm at the Freese funeral home with burial in the La Place cemetery.
