He was born March 3, 1903, in Kansas to Irvin and Mimie DeWitt Barnard. He lived west of Humboldt until 1951 when he moved to Independence where he worked as a welder for Wilder Petroleum Company for 35 years.
Survivors include sons Leon of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Carter of Denver Colo.; two daughters, Peggy Fenton and Gay Mechols, both of Corpus Christi; a sister, Luella Powell of Iola; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
