Elmer was the fourth of six children of William H. Shoudt and Ella A. Whitman Shoudt.
He married Jennie Hilbert, and the couple had four children: Russell in 1914, Erwin in 1916, Evelyn Mae about 1918 and Elmer Jr. in 1920.
Elmer was a farmer, and he lived in Upper Black Eddy (Bridgeton Twp.) all his life.
He had five known grandchildren and four additional known descendants as of early 2009.
