If you've ever seen a cartoon of a magician with a mustache and a top hat, then you've seen Alexander Herrmann. His iconic image was so ingrained into the minds of the public that even today, over 100 years since his death, people still think of his image when they think of a traditional magician.
Herrmann was only one of several Herrmann's. His older brother Carl or Compars was also a magician. Carl was 27 years older than Alexander and at some point in time, had him join the show. Following in his brothers footsteps Alexander became adept at the art of conjuring as well.
He died abruptly on a train ride and his wife and nephew Leon eventually took over the show.
