Mrs. America Gradeless, 75, well known Whitley county woman, died at her home in Thorncreek, Twp., near the Hoops school south of Tri-Lakes at 3 o'clock this morning. Her death followed an illness of about ten weeks from erysipelas.

Mrs. Gradeless had resided upon her farm near the Hoops school for the past 48 years. She was a native of Smith township, born April 12, 1860, to William and Malinda Krotzer Van Meter. Her husband, Zenos Gradeless, passed away on May 12, 1895.

Of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Gradeless, three preceded their mother in death. Surviving are Charles Gradeless of Etna township, David Gradeless of Thorncreek, Cleveland Gradeless, at home, and Cecil Gradeless of Columbia Township. Two sister, the Misses Meda and May Van Meter and two brothers, William and Alfred Van Meter, all of Smith township, survive together with 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A brother proceded her in death.

Mrs. Gradeless was a member of St. John's United Brethren church. She was known throughout the Thorncreek township community and had many friends who will greatly regret her death.

The body, brought to the DeMoney Funeral Home, will be returned to the residence in Thorncreek township Tuesday evening where friends will be received.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the residence and burial will be made in Concord cemetery. The family requests friends to please omit flowers.
