Pauline McKinney Chapman died on June 1, 2008. Arrangements under the direction of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA.

PAULINE MCKINNEY CHAPMAN, known as "Polly" to all, was a beloved wife, mother of 9 children, grandmother of 18, and great-grandmother of 5. She passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Born June 29, 1924, to Lucius and Clara McKinney, Polly was a lifetime resident of Cobb County. She grew up in Marietta and attended Marietta High School, along with her two older sisters, Annette McKinney Risse, and Ruby Lee McKinney Humphrey. They shared many friends throughout their lives and remained close to one another. (Annette and Ruby Lee preceded Polly in death in recent years.)

Polly's husband, Cyrus (Cy) Miller Chapman, the "love of her life", was also known as Polly's "blue-eyed Santa", because of how they met at a Christmas dance in Atlanta after WWII. For 53 years, before Cy's passing in April 2001, they shared the wonder of their love with family, community, and God. Prior to the birth of their third child in 1953, Polly worked as a secretary at the Bell Bomber Plant and Lockheed, before leaving the work force to raise her family. She enjoyed her role as a wife, mother/homemaker, and PTA worker for 24 years. She then re-entered the work force as a bookkeeper for Mayo Chemical in Smyrna in 1977, when most of her "kids" had left home. In 1996, after 19 years with Mayo, she retired to spend more time with "her Cy."

During their time together, Polly and Cy loved dancing to Big Band music and playing "couple's bridge" with their friends. Her love of children, particularly babies, was known to all. God knew what he was doing when he brought Polly and Cy together. Church was an anchor of their marriage. Polly was a member of Marietta First United Methodist Church for many years, then joined Smyrna First United Methodist Church and in recent years had been a member of Due West United Methodist Church.

Family and friends throughout the community will mourn her loss, but remember her great love for them with joy. Her reunion with loved ones, particularly her "blue-eyed Santa" is ours to celebrate. Polly is survived by her nine children, eight daughters and son in laws, 18 grandchildren, five great- nieces and nephews, nieces, and nephews, two brothers-in-law, one sister in law, and many cousins.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, June 4, at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw. Services will be held Thursday, June 5, at 10:30 AM at Due West United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Chapman's memory to: The Alzheimer's Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl 17 Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633 or to by phone 1-800-272-3900. Donation can also be made to The National Down Syndrome Society at 666 Broadway 8th Floor, New York, New York 10012.
