Father: Captain John Tanner, born 15MAY1741 in New York City
Mother: Ann Schenck, born 27AUG1751 in NYC

Siblings:
Famous printers/mapmakers Henry Schenck Tanner (m. Mary Roberts in PA in 1818) and Benjamin (Mary Bieren) Tanner, also John Jay who died in his 20s unmarried, Abraham (Hilah Conklin); and sister Elsie Maria who married John Ferguson, Esq.

Elizabeth married William Darby, Esquire in 1816 in Columbia, Pennsylvania; they had one child: daughter Elizabeth Ann Darby who married Franklin Raikes and is buried in Indiana.

From her husband's biography "THE ASTONISHED TRAVELER William Darby, Frontier Geographer and Man of Letters" written by J. Gerald Kennedy, published Louisiana State University Press in 1981, we learn that Elizabeth was a loving companion to William on many of his treks. It's not clear if she and baby Elizabeth accompanied him on his "Tour from the City of New York to Detroit" (Wm Darby, 1818), but he mapped so many places that she was surely committed to him fulfilling his destiny.

Elizabeth was originally buried in Holmeads Burial Ground in NW Washington, DC, but tranferred to Rock Creek when Holmeads was given up as a cemetery. Marker already lost/decayed at that time; she and William became two of the many unknowns...so ironic for all they strove to teach others.
