Tena Warkentin, 77, of Salem died Saturday in Dallas.

She was born in Carpenter, South Dakota and had lived in Salem since 1986. Before moving to Salem, she had been a longtime Dallas resident.

She married John Warkentin on December 27, 1944. He died in 1983.

She was a 1941 graduate of the Oregon College of Education, now Western Oregon State College, and worked for 36 years as an elementary school teacher, retiring after teaching in Dallas schools for 20 years.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed church activities.

Survivors include her sons, Bob of Brier, Washington, and Bill of Bend; daughter , Beverly Hill of Federal Way, Washington; brothers George Martens of St Paul Minnesota, Abe Martens of Fresno, California, and Nick and Bill Martens both of Dallas; sisters, Ann Hoffman of Dallas and Sarah Block of Newton, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will begin at 10 AM Friday in the church. Interment will be in Salt Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary.
