Martha Fitzgerald Taylor passed away peacefully in San Clemente, California on January 12, 2009.

She was born in Draper, Utah on July 16, 1919 to Myrtle Kirkham Fitzgerald and H. Alvah Fitzgerald.

Martha graduated from Lehi High School. She attended LDS Business College, Branch Agricultural College, and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1948. She married Donald Lavar Taylor on December 30, 1943. They had four children before divorcing in 1970.

Martha spent many years being a mother and homemaker, as well as helping our father in his career as a professor/author. She edited his books and articles and hosted numerous social gatherings. She hung our school projects on the wall, read us books and sang us lullabies. In her later years, she loved taking classes, studying the scriptures, and writing poetry. She had literary talent and a strong sensitivity to the beauty expressed in literature and the arts.

She always hoped to have some of her poetry put to music, and we have no doubt that she will have that desire fulfilled as she collaborates with angels. Our mother experienced much suffering as a result of mental illness, and we are so grateful that she is now whole and at peace with her Savior, Whom she deeply loves. She taught us compassion and patience. We are so proud of her for enduring to the end in faith.

Martha is survived by her children: Dianne May (Jim), Bloomington, IN; Susan Taylor, Collinsville, IL; A. Lavar Taylor (Lynda), Irvine, CA; and Becky Heiss (Matthew), Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Joshua Heiss, Talia Heiss, and Brennan Taylor; siblings Myrtle Munk (Keith) and Ann Doyle (George). She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Alvah K., Don, Sherman, and Miriam.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Salt Lake 21st Ward Chapel located at 680 East Second Avenue in Salt Lake City, UT. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Draper City Cemetery.
