Ward Eldred married Charlotte Newlan in Christian Co., IL, Aug. 27, 1869, where they were enumerated in the 1870 census before arriving in Liberty Twp., Coffey Co., KS, about 1872.
They had eight children, but the names of only five children are known.

He had been in his usual health up to that time and his death was without warning. It was later determined that he died of heart disease when with a cry he placed his hands to his heart and fell to the floor dead.
