Sydney served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24H #42-7613, 704th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Providence County, Rhode Island prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 20, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.
B-24H #42-7613 took off from USAAF Station 125, Bungay, England on a bombing mission over Onsabruck, Germany. They are believed to have been hit and shot down by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Onsabruck during the war. 3 of the crew were killed in the crash and the other 7 survived and became POW's of the German Army.
Sydney was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
He was originally interred in Holland and was later repatriated here on April 12, 1951.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
