Pioneer William H. Booker Survives His Wife a Brief Month
William H. Booker, the pioneer farmer of Rough & Ready, died at his home at midnight last Sunday. He had been in feeble health a long time, and he failed in strength rapidly when, on the 14th of last month, his aged wife to whom he had been married 52 years, died. With her passing his sun of human happiness had set and he was content to join her in death.
The deceased was born in Virginia in 1824 and early in life he was lured to these western shores. He settled in Tuolumne county, passing through the exciting days of the gold excitement and finally settling on his splendid farm at Rough & Ready. Through all his long life he was ever the ideal citizen, esteemed and respected far and wide for all the attributes that contribute to make the manly man. He is survived by nine children-- six sons and three daughters.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and the remains were placed in a grave beside those of his late wife in the Morgan Chapel cemetery.
