Mrs. Pocahontas Hammond until recently and for many years a citizen of Brunswick, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Bowman, in Kansas City, on Friday afternoon October 11th, 1901.
The deceased was the widow of the late Charles Hammond, who died in this city a few years ago and for many years was a well known and prominent attorney of this section.
She was the daughter of Charles J. Cabell, a prominent farmer and old citizen of Chariton county, and was married to Mr. Charles Hammond in the year 1859 near this city, and for thirty-five years resided in the same house in Brunswick. She had been in failing health from diabetes for some time, and had been confined to her bed since the first of last June. Mrs. C. W. Bowman, of Kansas City, and Hon. C. C. Hammond, of Salisbury, are her only surviving children.
The remains were brought to Brunswick on Sunday and were conveyed to the Presbyterian church of which she had long been a member, where appropriate services were held, conducted by Rev. Franc Mitchell and Dr. Hemenway, of Glasgow. After the funeral services the remains were conducted to the Elliott Grove Cemetery, followed by a large concourse of old friends and there consigned to their last resting place.
