Killed by accidental discharge of fellow soldier's musket while on picket duty, Camp Nevin, Kentucky.
The National Cemetery Interment Form states that he was originally buried at Nolin Station, Kentucky. The 78th Pennsylvania Infantry was in that area at Camp Nevin and Camp Negley in November and December of 1861. The U.S. Burial Register also shows S. Thorn buried with other men of the 78th Pennsylvania whose deaths were described as being at Camp Nevin or Camp Negley.
