Mr. Crockett was a member of the M.E. Church, South. Having joined the church under the influence of Rev. J.N. Graham, several years ago. He was a devoted Christian living daily his motto: “ Do unto other as you would have others do unto you.” His help and influence will be greatly missed in the community and the whole of Lee County.

He was born November 16, 1883, and was married to Miss Maude Mise November 16 1907. To this union was born three children all of whom are living. He was practically raised by his grandparents, the late Arthur C and Mary F. Ely, in the same home where he died. His parents were the late Harrison and Lutisha Ely Crockett. His wife and children and six of his seven brothers were at his bedside when he died. He was a member of the Masonic Junior, and Odd Fellow Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maude Mise Crockett; three children; Harrison Crockett, Norris, Tenn.; Arthur Crockett , Hiawassee, N.C.; and Mrs. Lewis Smith, Jonesville; three grand-children, Billie Mae Smith, Jonesville; Patty Lou Crockette, Norris, Tenn; Arthur Crockett Jr., Hiawassee, N.C.; Seven brothers, Roscoe Crockett, Jonesville; Charlie, Bryan Hibson and Frank Crockett, Ewing; Bill Crockett, Rose Hill and Moses Crockett of Tyler, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday, March 31, by Rev. Buchanan of Tazwell, Rev Dave Miles of the local church and Re. W.B. Moore of Pennington Gap. Beautiful song services were rendered by Rev. and Mrs. Moore and daughter and Mrs. Sewell. Burial Followed in the Ely Cemetery near his home.

The immense number of people and the beautiful floral offerings were tokens of esteem of which John Crockett was held in the neighborhood of his home and the full radius of Lee County. All that was humanly possible was done for John in his last sickness by his family, his neighbors, friends and physicians, to ease his suffering, and cheer him in his last hours on earth, no wife nor children have been more faithful, loving and kind to their beloved than Johns. He will be missed in his home and neighborhood. But family and friends look on the brighter side of life and live as he has lived. Prepare to meet him in the great beyond where there is no more suffering, sorrows nor death.

His work on earth is ended, His journey here is over, His weary feet are planted upon the golden shore. He is not dead, but sleepeth, His faith has been made whole. Think, loved ones and friends, How happy he will be to greet us all once more, when we too shall cross the river Jordon, and be greeted by him again
