James Elwood Slick, husband, father, brother, uncle and grandpa passed away on January 11, 2009 from Cancer.


Born October 4, 1923 to John and Lillie Gordon Slick in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Married the love of his life, Rhea Mae Anthon on August 12, 1944 in Lakehurst, New Jersey while they were both serving our country in World War II. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away in 1994. He married Bernice Hanks Cox on May 8, 1996.


Jim was a proud member of the Army Air Corps, 379th Bomb Group and flew 25 successful missions over Europe as a staff Sargeant and Tail Gunner in a B-17. Member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. Joined the Navy after World War II and later became a reservist in the Seebees and retired after serving his country for 20 years. He served as DAV Jr. Vice Commander and Sr. Vice Commander.


Jim worked at Kennecott Copper Arthur Concentrator for 37 years. Was a local baseball umpire and basketball referee for 23 years - always making the "right call". He was an avid fisherman and loved camping.


Preceded in death by his wife, Rhea; brothers, Gordon, Arthur; son, Bill and granddaughter, Candy. Survived by his wife, Bernice; sons, Dennis (Linda), Robert (Laura); daughters, Linda (Blaine) McDonald, Colleen (John) Thistle, all of UT; brothers, Sam, Charles, Emile and sister Adeline, all of PA; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; step-children, Mary Lynne (Bill) Hand, Delbert Cox, Ralph (Kim) Cox, Chris Cox, Barbara (Blaine) Watson; 25 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at the Kearns 10th Ward Chapel, 5025 West 4865 South. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
