I have been taking photos of the Confederate headstones and have some information for John's memorial. John McPhail is buried in Sec. O, LOT 261, Grave #6. He is buried in the Confederate soldiers section in Cave Hill Cemetery. He is not buried in Cave Hill National Cemetery. They refused to bury the Confederate soldiers with the Union soldiers.
Thanks. Mike Goebel

John McPhail b. 1830
I don't believe that Allen McPhail was the father of John McPhail. Allen married for the first and only time in 1839 to Parthenia. I believe the father of John was the brother of Allen, a John, Sr. b. abt. 1802. He is listed in the 1830 census in Covington County with a wife and one male child under 5. John, Sr.'s wife was unknown. She may have died shortly after the birth of their daughter Mary Jane. John, Sr. died before 1860. The grandmother Dicey raised the last child, Mary Jane, who married John Wesley Dyess.
