According to the notice of his death published on 17 Jun 1881 in the Freeport Daily Bulletin, Freeport, Illinois, a freight train on the Denver and South Park railed was ditched on June 6th and three men were instantly killed. Among them was H. L. Black, an engineer who formerly resided in this city. No blame was assigned the company. Deceased was a son of Mr. Wm. Black, now living here and was well known by all railroad men in this section.
