MILITARY: Anderson served in the military between 1861 and 1865. Volunteered for service as a private in K Company, 20th Mississippi Regiment of Infantry, in the CSA. He enlisted 11 Jul 1861 and was discharged 26 May 1865. Attained the rank of sergeant.

Anderson Flowers Temple married twice. His first wife was Mary Ann Neubilia Hughes. So far, it appears that she was the mother of his children, but his second wife, Minerva Gilbert, helped to raise some of the children. Anderson and Mary had about eleven children. Some say that Anderson used the nickname of "Van", and he named one of his children Van.
