His last name was originally spelled Renoud , which itself was changed from the original spelling, by others, from Arnaud, the way Andrew's great grandfather spelled it and all of his ancestors going back into France to the early 1500s, spelled it ... He changed the spelling of his last name from Renoud to Arnow as early as 1800. The Ezra Cornell from whom he bought the property was the uncle of the Ezrah Cornell ( his father was Elijah Cornell II, Ezrah the elder's brother) The nephew of the elder Ezrah, started Cornell University after he made money going into business with Samuel Morse.of Morse Code fame....
