Eldon Elvon Beers, youngest of seven children of Milo G. and Katie (Brauninger) Beers, was born July 4, 1904, in Cushing, Iowa, and passed away Tuesday morning, July 27. He spent most of his life in the Battle Center and Cushing area except for a few years in Southern California. He lived on a farm in Battle Center where he attended school and church. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1924. He was married to DeVee Plomeses of Washta. To this union a son, Oliver Eldon "Bobby", was born. DeVee passed away ten days after their son was born. On September 2, 1930, he was married to Doris Grawburg of Correctionville at Pierson. In 1932 they moved to Cushing where he was in the trucking business until the fall of 1941 when the family moved to Hollywood, California, where they worked to advance the career of his son, Bobby, as an entertainer. Bobby entered motion pictures in 1943. In1945 Mr. and Mrs. Beers returned to Cushing where he went into the feed, gas and oil business which he operated until his health forced him to retire in 1964. He later engaged in part-time selling for Iowa Pellets, Inc. As a youth he had been a jockey and rode several of the larger circuits. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Roy, Wesley and Milo, and a sister, Mrs. Maude Lowry. He is survived by his widow, a son Bobby, two sisters, Mrs. C.E. Lowry of Sioux City and Mrs. Arthur Henderson of Marion, South Dakota, two grandsons, Bobby Jr. and Randy, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Hansen-Barker Funeral Home in Holstein at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29, with Rev. Donald Wahlgren officiating. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery.
