Marguerite Johnston of Charleston, SC died Friday, December 17, 2004.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services, Sunday, December 19, 2004 at two o'clock in Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment will be Monday at ten o'clock in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Saturday between three and five o'clock.

Mrs. Wood was born September 15, 1906 in Saint George, SC, the daughter of Preston Cornelius Johnston, Jr. and Virginia Louise King. Her grandfather Preston Cornelius Johnston was a Professor of English at Wofford College, a Planter, and Clerk of Court in Dorchester County, SC, where he was succeeded by his father, C.P Johnston.

Mrs. Wood graduated from Saint George High School and attended Winthrop College and the College of Charleston. She was married to Laurence Willis Wood of Charleston, SC, who predeceased her on November 9, 1957.

She worked as a stenographer and legal clerk for the District Attorney, U.S. Justice Department, in Charleston for 25 years when she retired in 1970.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 68 years and the Ruth Califf Circle and the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the NSDAR. She is survived by her son: Laurence Willis Wood, Jr. M.D. and his wife Henrietta Rhett Blanding Wood of Darlington, SC; one daughter, Virginia Anne Duval Wood of Charleston, SC: one grandson: Mark Campbell Wood of Garland, Texas; two granddaughters: Loren Rhett Bradley of Orem, Utah and Marguerite Anne Ball Wood Dozier of Florence, SC; two great-granddaughters: Marguerite Alicia Rhett Dozier and Melanie (Louise) Lee Dozier of Florence, SC; She was predeceased by four sisters: Floy Johnston Behling, Ray Johnston Clark, Anne Lee Johnston Bailey and Olive Virginia Johnston; four step-brothers: Joseph Preston Johnston, M.D. and William Edward Johnston and George and James W. Way and a grandson, Laurence Willis Wood, III. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 273 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
