P.C. Johnston,Jr., Killed Shot Accidental

Former Clerk of Court of Dorchester County and one of the most Prominent Citizens.

Saint George,Feb 2,1912-P.C. Johnston,Jr.,and one of the most Prominent Citizens, accidentally shot and killed him self while out hunting this morning about five miles from town.

He was accompanied on his bird hunt by Cal. Weathers of Reevesviile,who was only a few yards away when Mr. Johnston in some way stumbled and fell, causing the gun to discharged the hole load of shot entered his head and causing death almost instantly.

In the loss of Mr. Johnston, Dorchester County has loss one of her best citizens. He served the court for 12 years and refused to offer for reelection at the request and solicitation of his numerous friends in order to retire into private life.where he has since run succeeded run a very large farm.

Mr. Johnston was 49 years old and is survived by his father P.C. Johnston,Sr., who is the present clerk of court and who succeeded his son to that office, and his mother Mrs. P. C. Johnston Sr.,(Annie Cornelia Smith Johnston). and five brothers all who are doctors.

The Brothers are Dr.,J.B.,Dr.Carlisle.,Johnston Dr.McRae and Dr.,S.L. esq of Saint George and Dr.,A.R. Johnston of
Reevesviile and three sisters. Connie Johnston and L.A. Reed of Saint George and Mrs.Flower of Sapartanburg besides his wife and four children numerous friends and relatives throughout the county and state who mourn his untimely loss.

The grave is of his son, Preston Cornelius Johnston, Jr. 1863-1912. (He pre-deceased his father- hunting accident) Anne Cornelia Smith Johnston was Jr's mother, not his wife. Jr was married to Virginia Louise King and Telula Minus. Thanks for all you do for the Johnstons!
