Ida McCoy Fry was born April 22, 1870 in Sharon township near Sharon Chapel. She was the daughter of Mitchell and Cyrene Mccoy. She moved with her parents to Caldwell township in about 1874 where she spent her girlhood. She was married to Alfred Fry Oct 13, 1889. They lived a short time in Sharon township then moved to the farm in Caldwell township north of Exline where they lived until the death of her husband March 18, 1911. To this union four children were born: Mrs. J.R. Bauman, near Exline, Glennof Centerville, Mrs. E.D. White of near Centerville, and Clell of near Exline, all surviving.
She also leaves 13 living grandchildren, four preceding her in death; 11 great-grandchildren.
She leaves one brother, Taylor McCoy, route 1, Centerville. Her parents, one brother, Gilbert McCoy and three sisters, Mrs. Ellda Stevens, Mrs. Vina Eddy, Mrs. Lizzie Dixon also preceded her in death.
She moved with her son Clell to Vermillion township for a year and in 1918 she moved to Exline where she made her home until July 4, 1945, where she lived at 600 East Prairie Street, Centerville, Iowa, until the time of her death June 30, 1946, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 8 days.
She died during the night while alone at her home. She was found dead the following morning by her son Glenn Fry and son-in-law E.D. White. She had apparently started to disrobe and had removed her shoes and hose, when she was fatally stricken. She had been ill for some time. A trip to Iowa City two weeks ago proved to be of no benefit and she returned to her home in this city.
She cared for her twin grandchildren, Alfred and Alfreda Fry after the death of their month. Alfred was killed in action April 6, 1945 in Germany.
She united with the Methodist church in Exline Dec. 4, 1890 and never tired of working for the betterment of the Kingdom. She loved her family and could never do too much for them and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Exline July 3, 1946 at 2 p.m. with Rev Charles Ellis, a former pastor, in charge. Burial in the Exline cemetery.
