She graduated from Bridgeport High School, Class of 1940. Betty was Chief Clerk of the War Price and Ration Board in Martins Ferry, OH, during WWII. Later she was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 13 years in Akron, OH, Indianapolis, and Greenwood as office manager before retiring in 1980.
Betty was the widow of Ira Closin Spoon and is survived by their three daughters, Linda (Harold) McElroy, of Pawleys Island, SC; Cheryn (George) Williams, of Charlottesville, IN; and Deanna (Larry) LaFleur, of Marblehead, OH; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Lucille Smith, of Martins Ferry, OH.
