"Babe" Caldwell 65, mayor of Pella, who died of cancer Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Caldwell was a Pella resident since 1946 and was owner of Ideal Pharmacy. He was mayor of Pella the past 17 years and before that served 14 years as a city councilman. He attended the Drake University school of pharmacy and was a member of the state board of pharmacy examiners nine years and served as pharmacist of Pella Community Hospital for several years. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club and Pella Golf and County Club. Survivors include his wife, Sara; four sons, Tim W. of Quincy, 111., Joel B. of Des Moines, Scott D. of Pella and Kirk M. of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Sarah Aubuchon of Florissant, Mo.; and sii grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to City of Pella Recreation Commission.
