He married the former Lucy Mae Donald, the daughter of Scott Donald and Emma Donald, who was also a native of Kemper County, MS. They had thirteen children which consisted of ten daughters and three sons.
He also fathered one child, a son, by Johnnie Mae Lanier Boyd, the daughter of Earl Lanier and Annie Jewel Houston Lanier, who was also a native of Kemper County, MS.
He died at his residence on January 26, 1982, at the age of 75.
