Harry began his journey on November 23, 1937 in Joplin, Missouri, one of many children born to the late Harry Lee Austin and Lela Irene (Hodges) Long. He grew up in Joplin, Missouri and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years before being discharged in 1961. Harry was united in marriage to Shirley Sherwood on September 17, 1961 in Anderson, Missouri and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. He was employed by Missouri Steel Castings in Joplin, Missouri for twenty three years and obtained his Electrical license in his younger years. Harry enjoyed fishing, raising laying hens, spending time with his family, and visiting with his neighbors and friends. He will be remembered by all as a faithful husband and father and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Long of the home; two sons ~ Alan Long of Anderson, Missouri ~ Matthew Long and wife Tina of Pineville, Missouri; one daughter ~ Stephanie Long of Anderson, Missouri; two grandchildren ~ Brandon and Ryan; two sisters ~ Marcella Oxford of Joplin, Missouri and Merna Boles and husband Jerald of Arizona; one brother ~ Earl Long of Joplin, Missouri; numerous nephews and nieces along with many neighbors and friends who will dearly miss Harry and his smile.
