One of six children of Jasper Newton and Melissa J. (Guynn) Richardson. Named for his uncle, Granville Guynn (No. 33750231), who served in the same company and regiment as his grandfather, Sgt. Issac Richardson during the Civil War.

"Randolph, Iowa, Oct. 2: Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Claude R. Cook for Granville Richardson who died Friday after a lingering illness which has extended over many months.
Granville Henry Richardson, the oldest of five brothers, was born on March 22, 1868, at Wabash, Indiana. He died September 29, 1922, at the family home in Randolph, at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 7 days.
He was united in marriage December 18, 1884, to Dora Hindman at Thurman, Iowa. After living in and near Thurman and in Omaha he moved with his family to Randolph 21 years ago and has resided here since.
The children are Glen Everett of Kansas City, Harold Henry of Evanston, Wyoming, Willard Newton and Mildred Lotha at home. These children and one grandchild, John Everett are left with the faithful wife to mourn their loved one.
The brothers are Frank and Will of Council Blufs, George and Charles of Omaha.
A number of relatives from out of town were present including Mr. and Mrs. Everett Richardson and son of Kansas City, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richardson and George Richardson of Omaha, Frank and Will Richardson of Council Bluffs and the Hicks family of Thurman, and a number of others."

His wife, Dora X. (Hindman) Richardson later moved to Los Angeles and lived with their daughter, Mildred (Richardson) Yaffe.
