Rhode Island Governor, U.S. Senator. He graduated from Brown University in 1887, attended Harvard University Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced to practice law in Providence, Rhode Island. He was an instructor in Roman law at Brown University (1894-97) and during the Spanish-American War, served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After the war, he was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives in 1907, served as Chairman of the city plan commission of Providence (1917-19), and was elected as a Democrat the 57th Governor of Rhode Island, serving (1933-36). In 1936, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until 1961. He died in retirement at age 98. Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport in Warwick is named after him.
