Jessie Carol Chappell, 85, of Springfield, Missouri, and formerly of Casa Grande, died March 30, 2001 in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m Thursday at Simes Mortuaries Casa Grande Chapel. The funeral there will follow at 11 a.m.. with the Rev. Mary Slocum and the Rev. Ken Prettyman officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

The Rev. Chappell was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Russellville, Arkansas, the sixth of seven children of James C. and Sarah (Stokes) Rose. She was an ordained minister with Assemblies of God Women's Ministries, serving the Tohono O'odham village of Hickiwan before retirement.

She lived in Casa Grande for 30 years before moving to Springfield two years ago. She enjoyed oil painting and reading, especially the Bible. She was known as intelligent, plucky, feisty and a champion of causes she believed in.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Rose Prettyman, of Everett, WA; a sister, Vera Ragsdale, of Dover, AR; a brother, Glen Rose, of Texarkana, TX; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond, in 1997; a sister, Mae Rose; and three brothers: Clyde, Covey and Dennis Rose.
