Served in Co. G, 13th Indiana Infantry.

Harrison Allen was born in Daviess County, Indiana on the 18th of February, 1823 to James Allen and Mary Hyzer. He was the 7th of 11 children born to that union but only the 2nd child born in Indiana. His father, James, having brought the family in 1819 to the new state of Indiana
Harrison bought land in Reeve Township, Daviess County, Indiana and married Anny White February 25, 1843 in Section 35 about a mile east of present day Alfordsville. Next door to him were my Great Grandfather Michael Truelove and his wife, Nancy White Truelove, the sister of Anny. Both families built the log cabin homes and cleared the land as they were both farmers as were most of the pioneers in this area.
Sometime in the mid 1850's as their families were increasing in size and the children were growing up they felt the need for larger houses. Together, Harrison Allen and his brother-in-law, Michael Truelove, built kilns between the homes to fire their own bricks and erected 2 story brick homes, the first brick homes in Reeve Township. They had 8 rooms each ( 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor) with a central wooden stairway and the brick walls at the base were 18 inches deep.
Harrison had 9 children in 1864 when he was drafted into Company G 13th Indiana Infantry Regiment, In July of 1865 after they had taken part of the capture of Raleigh, North Carolina, and just 3 months before the 13th was mustered out, Harrison died. His wife, Anny, remarried and life went on.
The Allen and Truelove Children grew up together, played, went to the same school (which was located on the Southwest corner of the Allen farm, and went to the same church, Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
In 1881 Hilary Truelove , my Grandfather and the youngest son of Michael Truelove, married Vienna Allen, the daughter of Alfred Allen, an older brother of Harrison. So Hilary's Aunt was Anny White Allen and Vienna's Uncle was Harrison Allen.
Harrison has a memorial cenotaph at the Old Union Cemetery that is located on the land that was the farm of his father, James Allen, and where he grew up.
