Charles A. "Chuck" Pestotnik, of 1416 Union Street in Boone, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone on Sunday evening, March 30, 2008.

He was born on September 19, 1921 in Boone, Iowa the son of Andrew and Martha (Clark) Pestotnik and lived in Boone throughout his life.

On September 6, 1947, he married Pauline Thorngren at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone.
Chuck was a 1939 graduate of Boone High School. He attended John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in Civil Engineering. Chuck spent his entire working career with the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames and retired from his long time position as the State Bridge Engineer.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Rangers in Africa, Sicily, Italy and Europe.
He and Pauline loved gardening and provided friends and neighbors with produce throughout the season. Chuck enjoyed hunting and fishing. Chuck and Pauline enjoyed traveling in Europe, making numerous trips to Europe to visit relatives.

His parents, son Mark in August of 1993 and sister Mildred Ross preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Pauline of Boone; a sister Maxine Hartung of Bettendorf; a brother Dick Pestotnik and his wife Bonnie of Boone; a grandson Ryan Pestotnik and his wife Ann of Boone; 3 great-grandsons; a brother-in-law Carl Thorngren and his wife Bonnie of Boone; a sister-in-law Ruth Thorngren of the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone; numerous nieces and nephews.
His coffee drinking friends from Hy-Vee and the walkers at the YMCA will miss him.

The body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday afternoon, April 3rd at 1:30 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Don Howard officiating. Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may select a charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers.
