Adam Wilt married Mary Robinson in Ohio, He and Mary already had three young children and Mary was pregnant with the fourth when Adam enlisted in the Ohio Infantry to fight during the Civil War. The entire regiment that he served in was captured and taken prisoner by the Confederate forces. They were sent to the Confederate Prison Camp located at "Belle Isle" Virginia in November of 1863. Because of over-crowding conditions most of the population of the prison camp was forced to live outdoors without the benifit of shelter. His death certificate listed cause of death as being ""disease caused by imprisonment.""
Adam's fourth child was born in Ohio just after Adam was taken prisoner by the Confederate Forces. Adam died without ever learning that his youngest son would bear his name.
