WILLIAM "BILL" FELIX VAIL, JR.

Went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 3, 2009, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Janaury 8 from 6-8pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14725 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS. followed by a Celebration of his Life on Friday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church, 8500 W. 159th, Overland Park, KS. Interment, Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the City Union Mission, P.O. Box 270107, Kansas City, MO 64127-9801.

Bill was born July 1, 1962 in Lake Charles, LA to William and Mary Horton Vail. He graduated from Chickasaw Academy and went on to graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Janet Stinson on April 20, 1984 in Shreveport, LA. Together, they raised their family while Bill's career moved them to several states, including Louisiana, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona and eventually settling in Kansas.

Bill was a member of a the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Society, the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and was named an Outsatnding College Student of America, graduating in the top five percent of his class.

Bill was a Mechanical Engineer throughout the course of his career, and was employed with Ethyl Corporation, Sinclair Oil Corporation, and most recently with Black and Veatch.

Bill and his family were active members of Grace Church, and he was involved with several Boy Sout Troops, including Troop #225, Troop #108, and most recently Troop #522. He was awarded the highest rank of Eagle Scout through the Lone Scouting Program.

In his leisure, Bill was a ski patroller with Snow Creek Ski Resort, a scuba dive master, and enjoyed sailing, backpacking, playing the piano, and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, his children, Benjamin Cary Vail, Christopher Ryan Vail, and Weston Taylor Vail, his father William Felix Vail, Sr., his sister Simone Sinclair, and his niece Emilee and nephew, Addison of Dobbins, CA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Horton Vail, and cousin Kimberly Keys Dickey.

Bill was an amazing husband and father. But most importantly he was a Christian and lived it everyday. He loved God with all his heart.
