COLDWATER - Thelma M. Scantlen, 82, of Coldwater died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 at The Laurels of Coldwater.
Mrs. Scantlen was born March 3, 1918 in Bremen, Ind. to Erwin and Hattie (Carbiener) Weaver.
Mrs. Scantlen was a registered nurse working for several doctors at the Community Health Center, and she retired from the Coldwater State Home in 1980. She graduated from the Bethany Nursing School in Chicago.
Mrs. Scantlen was a resident of the Branch County area for more than 50 years, coming here from Indiana. She was a member of the Kinderhook Congregational Church. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her former husband Robert E. Scantlen in August of this year. Also preceding her in death was son Gene Scantlen in 1962, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include one son; six daughters; 24 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother Mark Weaver of Mentor, Ohio and sister Sarah Singrey of Kissimee, Fla.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
A service will be held Monday, Oct. 23, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Betty Smith of the United Methodist Church, Coldwater, will officiate.
Burial will take place at Knauss Cemetery, Kinderhook Township.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of one's choice.
