She was first married to the late Dr. Julian Edgar Atkinson.
Born in Perry, FL, she was the daughter of the late Howard B. and Sara Ward Gornto.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was very civic minded. She worked in medical billing in doctor's offices.
Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter and son in law, Sally A. and John Hawkins of Easley; one son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Darby Atkinson of Mauldin; a step daughter and step son in law, Jessica and Josh Fowler of Clinton; six grandchildren, Brandy and Phil Childress of Laurens, Dustin Rhodes of Clemson, Addy Fowler of Clinton, Holli Hawkins of Easley, Ashley Atkinson, Hunter Atkinson, and Will Atkinson all of Mauldin; and two great grandchildren, Tori Childress of Laurens and Owen Conner Atkinson of Mauldin.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Julieanne Atkinson. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday January 7, 2009 at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Tom Faucette with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
