Crash kills woman

An 81-year-old Carlisle woman died this morning as a result of a two-car accident Wednesday afternoon in Monroe Township.

Pearl C. Schnohl (sic), 47 N. East St., died at 6 a.m. in Carlisle Hospital due to multiple chest injuries, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County coroner said.

State Police at Carlisle said a car driven by Robert M. Spalding, 27, RD1 Deer Lake, Lewisberry, was passing another vehicle when it collided head-on with Ms. Schnohl's (sic) car at the crest of an upgrade on Route 74, about three-quarters of a mile south of Route 174.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m., police said.

Spalding was treated at Carlisle Hospital, a spokeswoman at the hospital said this morning.

Police said rescue workers from Monroe and South Middleton township fire companies assisted at the scene of the accident.

Pearl C. Schmohl, 81, 47 N. East St.. Carlisle, died Thursday at the Carlisle Hospital as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born in North Middleton Township, was a retired employee of the Carlisle Tire and Rubber Co. after 20 years service, and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and Sunday school.

She was a member and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose and a member of the Cumberland Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Surviving are one son, Clyde E. Schmohl, RD8 Carlisle; two daughters, Anna Mae Harbold, RD4 Dillsburg, and Evelyn Shlpp, 8 Railroad Ave., Carlisle; one sister, Mae Hawk, 1913 Zarker Street, Harrisburg; one brother, John Carbaugh, 1025 Walnut St., Lemoyne, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Dr. Gerald D. Kauffman officiating. Burial will be In Kutz's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
