Mrs. Nancy Stough Well Known Pioneer Dies on Saturday
Mrs. Nancy Jones Stough
, 82, a resident of Cherokee practically all her life, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel hospital.
Mrs. Stough, who had been in ill health for the past year, broke her hip in a fall at her home on Monday and was taken to the hospital.

Born July 7, 1875, she was the oldest child of William and Mary Jones who came to Kansas from North Carolina in a covered wagon, homesteading near the present city of Cherokee. Ye ed attended school in the grades and high school and Nancy was one of the honor students always, and she had the best memory concerning oldtime events and people we have ever known. And we often consulted her to make sure we were right, and if Nancy said yes, we never looked any further.

She was married June 7, 1887, to William Stough at Girard. Mr. Stough, retired coal miner, died April 17, 1945.

Nancy took a great interest in politics and for many years was the Democrat committeeman on the east side, and we can remember when she and Bill served on the election board because they couldn't find enough Democrats except themselves. Nancy was an extra good official. We kidded each other about politics but never got mad.

Membership was held in the Methodist church and the Women's Literature Club, both in Cherokee.
She taught the Kings Daughters Sunday school class at the church for twenty years.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Winona Stough of the home, and postmaster of Cherokee; Mrs. Marjorie Howard of Erie, and Mrs. Virginia Martino of Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. E.J. Price and Mrs. Edgar Hoppe, both of Jensen Beach, Fla., and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cherokee Methodist church with Rev. James Wright officiating. Burial was in the Cherokee cemetery.
Pallbearers were Casey Jones, Charles Sharp, Joe Lucchi, Melvin Rupard, John Bolick, and Jesse Spielman. Mrs. Sadie Curry and Mrs. Betty Wilson sang accompanied by Mrs. Helen Imhof.

Nancy and ye ed had been good friends for so many years and we will miss her probably more than anyone in town, outside her own family. We always looked forward to the fine canned goods she sent to me at Christmas time low these many years. A good woman gone!
