Mrs. Susan B. Reed, widow of the late David H. Reed, died at her residence, No. 219 North Twenty-eighth Street, yesterday afternoon, aged eighty-six years. Mrs. Reed was the olddest daughter of the late Elias Reed and was born at Fourth and Franklin Streets, but the family soon afterward removed to Church Hill, and Mrs. Reed was probably the oldest resident of that section, as well as the oldest member of St. John's Church, having been a member for nearly seventy-three years, and was one of the five generations of her family who worshipped there. Mrs. Reed was active in all church and charitable work, was the first president of St.
John's Guild and was organist of the church for some years. During her long and useful life she was identified with all useful and benevolent work, and, until incapitulated by age, conducted one of the large female schools on Church Hill. Mrs. Reed is survived by a sister, Miss Virginia C. Reed, and two daughters. Miss Nannie Reed and Mrs. Susie S. Seay. Mr. W.T. Poythress is a nephew. Mrs. Reed was of an English family that came to this country in 1620 in the Mayflower, and connected with prominent famalies in the majority of the original States. Her father was practically the founder of merchant marine in this city. The funeral will take place at five o'clock this evening from St. John's Church and the interment will be made in Hollywood. Rev. Mr. Goodwin will officiate, and the
pall-bearers will be: Active Capt. John F. Mayer, James T. Gray, James Caskie, Harvey Clarke, Giles Pieot, Rufus Yarbrough, Cyrus Bossieux and Willie Stokes; honorary. James Sinton. George Currie. Gilmour Minor and Peyton R. Carrington.
