Corporal Benjamin Dean Andrews died at 10 PM 16 Apr 1865 (Easter Sunday) of typoid fever and was buried 3 PM 17 Apr 1865.
In Oct of 1861 (one month after his second son was born) Benjamin joined Birges Western Rifles (a sharpshooter regiment) which later became the 66th Illinois Infantry Regt and was a member of that unit until his death in Apr 1865. He was slightly wounded 28 Dec 1861 in the Battle of Mt. Zion.
He married Emily Twitchell in 1859. Emily died in 1879 in Abingdon, Knox County, Ill.
There were three children:
Charles Alden Andrews, b. 28 Jan 1860;
George Thomas Andrews, b. 25 Sep 1861 d. 26 Nov 1934;
Benjamin S. Andrews, b. 2 Dec 1864 d. 19 Feb 1918.
