Victor James Brownell was born on April 21, 1927, in San Fernando, California, and passed away on April 7, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. Brownell and Jessie (Ward) Brownell of Chico.

Vic spent his early education in Southern California, attended high school in Tulare, and then moved to Chico, where he enlisted in the Navy during WWII. Vic received a teaching degree from Chico State University. Here he met and married his sweetheart Margery (Belch). His first teaching was in Chico schools, then Robla Elementary in Sacramento. He obtained a Master's Degree in school administration from Sacramento State and finished his career of 35 years as an elementary administrator in Sacramento City Schools, 23 of which he served as principal at Sequoia Elementary School in the Rosemont area.

He had a love of sports, refereeing high school basketball and continuing on in softball as a life member of the Golden Seniors Softball League. He was a member of Capitol A's Model A Ford Club and enjoyed many years of touring with his Model A, which has been in the family since 1929. Vic enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren, sightseeing, Elderhostel trips, and RVing with old friends and Mello Milers. He was a charter member of Northminister Presbyterian Church and was active in the congregation for over 50 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marge; two sons, Scott Brownell and his wife Jacquelin of Racine, Wisconsin, and Todd Brownell and wife Janet of Hughson, California, one sister, Peggy Bridges of Redding, California, and five devoted grandchildren, Bethany, James, Kathryn, Adria, and Adam.

Friends are invited to a memorial service on April 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Northminister Presbyterian Church, 3235 Pope Ave., Sacramento, CA 95821. Remembrances may be made to Northminister Church Foundation or a charity of your choice.
