Mr. Betancourt was born October 21, 1919, in Andrews, SC, the son of Francisco M. Betancourt and Helen Wilder Betancourt.
He retired from Mead/Westvaco after 42 years of service. He was a member of Rutledge Baptist Church and the Exchange Club of Charleston. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
He was survived by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Ada Neely Betancourt; a daughter, Amarylis B. (Jack) Cranwell of Charleston; two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Cranwell and Dawn M. Cranwell; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial, directed by J. Henry Stuhr's Downtown Chapel, was December 30, 2008, in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
