As early as 1736 Minis had become a merchant-shipper, one of the first settlers in Georgia to engage in commerce. Trading under the name of Abraham Minis & Company and later Minis & Solomons. During Oglethorpe's two attacks on Spanish Florida (1740-43) Minis operated boats shuttling supplies between Savannah and Oglethorpe's base at Fort Frederica. He later operated and extensive ranching operation with the registered brand "A.M."
