83-YEAR-OLD CITIZEN DIES AT HOME NEAR ROSE HILL LAST SUNDAY

John G. Straughn, a honored citizen of Covington County is dead at the ripe age of 83 years. He came to the river that marks the unknown, Sunday morning, November 6, at his home fourteen miles northeast of Andalusia on the Rose Hill road. He lived to enjoy life more than three quarters of a century and will missed by all that knew him. He leaves behind him many admiring friends to mourn his death.

He was married to Miss Fannie Johns sixty-two years ago and to the union was born three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him as well. They are A.I. and Hubert, Andalusia and John Straughn of Newell, South Dakota; daughters, Mrs. Maxie Jackson, Opp and Miss Dollie Straughn of Andalusia, Rt. 2. The deceased is also survived by three brothers and one sister, A.C., D.I., and E.A. Straughn and Mrs. Annie Stewart of Mossy Head, Fla.
The deceased was the father of five children; the grandfather of eighteen children and the great grandfather of nineteen children. The funeral took place Monday morning and was largely attended. The service was conducted by Elder Farmer of Florala.

The pallbearers were his grandsons and were, Allie, Fay and Abner Jackson, Opp; R.L. Gunnels, Opp; Dallas, Thaddis, Abbie and Ray Straughn, Andalusia, Rt. 2. Flowr girls were his granddaughters and were Myrtle and Jewel Gunnels, Opp; Ruby Myrle, Ruth, Mary Francis and Clyde Straughn, Andalusia and L-, Alice, Lucile and Iona Jackson, Opp.
