Charles Thomas Sheffield was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, November 12, 1871, and passed away in the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City October 27, 1940, aged 68 years, 11 months and 15 days. Although his health had been failing for some time he was around as usual until Saturday evening when he became seriously ill at his home in Anthon. He submitted to an operation Sunday in an effort to correct the ailment he had suffered for years, but failed to rally and passed away. He was the son of John and Adelaide Sheffield, pioneer settlers of Woodbury Co. When a small boy he came with his parents and sisters from Wisconsin and settled on a farm south of Correctionville where they resided many years. Later with his parents he moved to a farm near Anthon. On July 15, 1903, he was married at Onawa, Iowa, to Eliza Diamond. To this union was born four children. The family resided in Anthon for fifteen years where he was actively engaged in several lines of business. He disposed of his business interests in Anthon and the family settled on a farm near Correctionville where they lived ten years. Later his health failed and he retired from active work. The children surviving include Darrell F. Sheffield and Adelaide Sheffield, Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Dorothy E. Park, Chappapua, New York, and Wayne C. Sheffield, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Emma Plato of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and a little granddaughter Patricia Ann Park.
