He ws born September 27, 1900 in Macon County, s/o Dr. J. A. Nowlin (1878-1928) and Emma Rau Nowlin. He married Margaret Carson December 19, 1925 at Bellflower. Surviving are his widow; a son, Owen Jr., Rocky Falls OH; two daughters: Sara (James T.) Brown, Chatham; and Patricia (Mrs. Jim) Fuller, Miami FL; and ten grandchildren. His parents and his brother preceded him in death.
He had been a physician at Farmer City for 29 years prior to moving to California in 1957. He was associated with his brother, Dr. Wilfred Nowlin (1902-1860) during that time. He graduated from Moore Township High School; received his degree from the University of Illinois and his MD degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He served his internship at Los Angeles, CA General Hospital. He maintained a private practice in Los Angeles for three years and returned to Farmer City at the death of his father, Dr. J. A. Nowlin, to take over his father's practice until his brother, Wilfred, received his medical degree and joined him. During WWII, Dr. Nowlin volunteered for active duty and was stationed at the Naval Hospital at San Diego for a time. He saw action in the South Pacific from Guadalcanal to Okinawa and was released from the service with the rank of commander.
He was active in many civic organizations both in Farmer City and in LaMesa.
