Richard Neff Adkins, 87, of Muskogee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2008. He was born July 30, 1921 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Boyd N. and Maude M. Adkins. Richard graduated from Drumright High School in 1940 and from Oklahoma State University in 1944 with a B.S. Degree in Commerce and Economics. He extended his education by receiving a chartered Life Underwriter degree from the American College of Life Underwriters. He worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Lawton, OK and Paducah KY in 1944-45, and the Bridgeman Furniture Co. of Poteau, OK until 1955. He and his family moved to Muskogee in 1955 to work for Prudential Insurance Co., until retirement in 1984. He was one of the top ten leaders in sales nationwide for Prudential for many years. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling. Richard and his wife, Annette, were married in 1943 and celebrated 65 years of marriage on August 29, 2008. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Bedouin Shrine, St. Paul United Methodist Church, and the Chamber of Commerce. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas, Marshall and Bobby. He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Sylvia Billingham of Muskogee; grandson, Tim Billingham and wife, Kelly, of Plano, Texas. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Jardine officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74401 or the Muskogee Public Library, 801 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74401. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
