He was born October 11,1915, in Scottsville, Michigan and was the son of Floyd and Elizabeth (Hessel) Wood.
Ivan Wood married fellow Michigan State University student, Leona Tousignant, on June 16, 1942.
Dr. Wood was a graduate from Michigan State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1943. Dr. Wood practiced his veterinary profession for the first 10 years in Mt. Clemens, Mich. He moved to Escanaba in 1952 where he continued his veterinary profession at the Delta Animal Hospital for another 10 years until he became disabled with a stroke.
Dr. Ivan Wood served as president of the Southwestern Veterinary Medical Association. He was instrumental in organizing the first Veterinary Medical Association in the Upper Peninsula for the purpose if increasing the knowledge and care of animal health in the upper peninsula.
He enjoyed bowling and horseback riding in his earlier years and was a member of the Escanaba Kiwanis Club.
Dr. Wood was survived by his wife of 61 years: Leona; 5 children: Brian (Ann) Wood and Stephen Wood both of Escanaba, Cheryl Wood of Appleton, WI, Dennis (Bridget) Wood of Rockford, MI, and Terry (Sue) Wood of Kalamazoo, MI; Also surviving is one brother: Merle Wood of Scottville, MI; 8 Grandchildren; and 1 Great Granddaughter.
