She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Brassard) Tousignant.
Leona graduated from Marquette High School and Michigan State University. The former Leona Tousignant married Dr. Ivan H. Wood on June 21, 1942, in Marquette. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2004. Leona was a loyal wife for 62 years, caring for Ivan after his stroke in 1962. She owned and operated the Escanaba Hearing Aid Service until selling the business in 1990. Leona was a member of St. Joseph/St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Escanaba Altrusa Club. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and traveling. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Leona Evelyn Wood is survived by four sons, Brian (Ann), Stephen, Dennis (Bridget), Terry (Sue), one daughter, Cheryl Wood; eight grandchildren, Tracy (Scott) Wanic-LeMire, Jeff (Stephanie) Wanic, Ryan (Kate) Wood, Stephanie (Karl) Wethe, Tory Wood (Joey Arkfeld), Michelle Wood, Cathryn Wood, and Steve Wood; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie Mayotte, Elsie Miron, Ella Pelissier, Irene Piasecki and Jeanette Bernard.
Visitation at the Anderson Funeral Home with closing remarks by the family. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph/St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Lougbucco and Leona's nephew Father Alan Mayotte officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
